Emotions feeling messy?

It could be a clarity thing.

May always messes with me.  I’m very aware that my energy levels toggle between surging and lacking. (I crave sugar so much in May.)  I’m also very aware of how it messes with the space behind my eyes - a mix of spring allergies and burn-out.  May also messes with my sense of peace and satisfaction. Discontent seems a little closer in this month.

But this season, I’ve been thinking that perhaps the real problem with May is that it messes with my clarity.

When you really think about it, May brings us so many societal messages that hit deep.  It brings us messages about how new spring beginnings are supposed to feel, and what a fresh and inspired and connected life is supposed to look like.  May brings messages about what graduations are supposed to feel like, which leads to what successful lives are supposed to look like. In the US, May brings us messages about what motherhood is supposed to feel like and look like.

The chakras say we feel messy clarity behind the eyes (in the 6th chakra) and that the 6th chakra is where the energy of the other chakras weave together.  Well that certainly holds true for my body and mind in May.  So if clarity is at the root of it all, how do we fight to regain our clarity?

Mindfulness Meditation would say we regain our clarity by listening carefully. What is this message about motherhood that I’m hearing?  What is this message about success I’m hearing? What is this message about fresh and inspired and connected lives that I’m hearing?  Where did it come from? What first brought this message to me? But does this message hold true for me? Is it time to acknowledge and notice this message for the sole purpose of letting it go?

Becoming Present Meditation:

Sit in a comfortable position with a pillow on your lap.  Lean forward, placing your thumbs or your fist between your eyebrows.  (You can also lean forward onto a soft yoga block between your eyebrows.)

Just breathe and enjoy the pressure.  This is where your clarity lies.  Just breathe and notice.

When you are ready, open your eyes and end here,  Or, begin the mindfulness meditation.

Mindfulness Meditation:

Breathe and enjoy the pressure of the space between your eyebrow, your place of clarity.

As you breathe, let your mind form an idealistic image of a graduation ceremony. Keep your mind on this, or shift to an idealistic image of a successful life.  Breathe and notice everything you can about this idealistic, shiny image.  Breathe and let your curiosity begin to wonder where this image came from?  When you are ready, let this idealistic image dissipate.  Breathe and focus on the pressure of the space between your eyebrows, your place of clarity.  Thank that idealized image for what it must have brought to you when you first heard about it, wherever it came from.  And then let it go. Just breathe and enjoy this feeling.

As you breathe, let your mind form an idealistic image of a Mother’s Day. Keep your mind on this, or shift to an idealistic image of motherhood.

As you breathe, let your mind form an idealistic image a freshened, newer life.

Closing Routine:

When you are ready, rub fingers together and take three cleansing breaths. Or use any closing routine that works for you.
